Oh joy! Come join the craic havin’ Irishburner community as we turn the West Lawn of historic Malahide Castle into a glowing and irreverent echo of our beloved playa!!

Yes, this year we are trying something new – in conjunction with the friendly, amenable and pro-actively arts promoting Fingal County Council (long may their names echo through the ages), we have been granted use of their incredible facility for an extended celebration of playa style nonsense and frolics! Just outside Dublin city, Malahide Castle is one of the oldest castles in Ireland, and is easily accessible by public transport, with both DART and bus stopping within 15 minutes of the castle door

Now in its third year, Ireland’s Decompression needs a new and distinctive home amongst good friends, and we have found them here… The castle has long had a history of innovation and revelry, and it is in this established spirit that they have decided to open its doors to our community. We sense the beginning of a long, enjoyable, and fruitful relationship with these free thinking keepers of a truly epic piece of Irish heritage, and therefore we invite YOU to come and help us start this friendship with the fire and energy it deserves!

With that in mind, we require all attendees to carefully read the Event Guide (which you will receive electronically before the event) and to behave within the boundaries agreed between Malahide Castle & the Irish Burner Community.

In keeping with the 10 principles of Burning Man, all shall be welcome, and participants are cordially invited, nay, positively encouraged to bring art, toys, tools, costume, theatre, lights, sounds, sense, nonsense, and incense to transform the castle into a little piece of the playa, deep in the heart of an enormous & historic estate! There will be ample space, time, volunteers, and opportunity for anyone to set up art & installations. As long as your artwork does not pose a risk to the castle or a hazard to participants – you will be welcome!!

In return, participants get to arrive from 6pm on Saturday and enjoy themselves in true playa fashion until very late.

If you would like to contribute art, time, or energy towards making this event exceptional, please let us know by emailing Ireland@burningman.com

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Parking will be available at the event, but if you even think you might be intoxicated, we strongly encourage you to either arrive by public transport or arrange to car-pool with a designated driver.

So come, lovely people, come join us, and together we shall rule the over the default world as its grey-faced forces break upon our mighty battlements!!!!

Irish Burners is a diverse, loosely-affiliated group of people living in Ireland who have been brought together through a common experience: the Burning Man festival and its culture. Because of this we identify as 'burners'. However, Burning Man consistently means different things to different people. Thus, the lifestyle, philosophy and art of being a 'burner' is not easily defined. One thing we do share and promote is a core set of values -- the 10 principles that permeate all we do. For

The 10 Key Pricipals are:

  • Radical Inclusion
  • Gifting
  • Decommodification
  • Radical Self-reliance
  • Radical Self-expression
  • Communal Effort
  • Civic Responsibility
  • Leaving No Trace
  • Participation
  • Immediacy

For more information, see www.burningman.com

Irish Burners have come together to foster these values through regional events, information sharing and education for the Burner- based community in Ireland (those with an experience of or interest in the Burning Man festival and associated values). All of our activities are the results of the collaborative efforts of our members.

This Irish Burners website has been created to serve as the community
